Your favorite love song – win some itunes for your honey

I know most of you have not even gone out and bought your Valentine’s cards for your husband, wife or significant other, mhmm I see you over there pretending you did. I’m one to talk, I usually go the night before and buy cards for my husband and kids, but this year I’m on it! I bought my cards last week, picked out special ones, got their Valentine’s treats and I am good to go.

I’m here to bail someone out. Between now and 5pm tomorrow (that’s west coast time, for you east coasters that’s 8pm) I’m going to pick someone to win $20 in itunes! Now you can give them to your honey as a extra little special Valentine’s gift, or you can keep them all to yourself!

All you have to do is leave a blog comment and let me know what your favorite love song is! How easy is that? So go for it!

I love me some Dave Matthews…

and Peter Gabriel…

and a little bit of Roy Orbison (check out how young Jason Priestly looks in the video)

Thanks for posting that “Drove All Night” video – awesome! Reminds me of another Roy Orbison song, a duet with kd lang to “Cryin’”. It is hauntingly beautiful!

allie - February 14, 2008 - 2:56 pm

What a fun contest! Hm… love song?! I’m THE must un-song-title-knowing person ever, so after 15 seconds of thinking, I hit up google for the top love songs list. I’m going to go with this one as my favorite:

best love song of all time number 32: Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic – 1981 The Police

Cindy - February 14, 2008 - 3:11 pm

Absolute BEST love song….

Fade Into You – Mazzy Star

Other favorites of mine include:

Killing Moon – Echo & the Bunnymen
Love Will Tear Us Apart – Joy Division
Love Song – The Cure
Teardrop – Massive Attack

I could go on, but I’ll leave it at the classics. :)

Mare/Marmalade - February 14, 2008 - 5:51 pm

Dammit, Peter Gabriel “in your eyes” is taken, darn you angela calderon. That was our first dance song, oh so 15 years ago. :)

I love the cinematography in the Dave Matthews video, btw, I don’t think I caught onto that the first million timmes I saw that video.

Cindy took my other song by the Joy Division….so…what’s a songstress to do? Pick more songs:

• “Gamble Everything for Love” Ben Lee
• “Every You, Every Me” Placebo
• “You Were the Last High” The Dandy Warhols
• “Book of Love” Peter Gabriel
• (not a love love song per se, except he does talk about his parents as a love affair): “Dance with my Father” Luther Vandross
• “Silly Love Songs” Paul McCartney
• “You’re The First, The Last, My Everything” Barry White
• “You’re Beautiful” James Blunt

The Junkie…

Addictions are bad.

I,  Angela Calderon, hereby solemnly swear that…… I’m addicted to reality tv.  I can’t even blame the writer’s strike on it, no I’ve been a reality tv junkie for many many years.

It all started out so innocently with MTV’s The Real World when I was in college.  It was the original reality show (well to me, not sure if it was for real, but I know it was one of the first ones that set off the current wave of reality television).  Then came MTV’s Road Rules, then this crazy little show that threw people on a island with nothing to eat, I think the name of it is Survivor (of course I’m sure you’ve never heard of it right ;-) ).  It didn’t stop there, Top Model, The Mole, Project Runway, Big Brother, Top Chef, American Idol, Rockstar, Temptation Island, The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, The Apprentice, Extreme Home Makeover, Biggest Loser, The Amazing Race, Celebrity Rehab, Surreal Life, it goes on and on and on.  How in the world do I find time to watch them all?  My DVR loves me, and I stay up wayyy too late for my own good.  These shopping bags under my eyes give away my secret.

My husband and I were horrified a few hours ago, what in the world were we to do.  Tonight three shows are on at the same time, the DVR can only record two.  Wait, there’s this weird thing hooked up to the other tv called a VCR and it might just help.  Yes, sadly I confess that we are DVRing American Idol & The Biggest Loser and recording Big Brother on the tv in the bedroom.

Is there a 12 step program I need to sign up for?  Come on reality tv junkies, chime in cause I know you are out there.

So this season’s reality schedule for us is something like this…

American Idol
Survivor
America’s Next Top Model
Make Me a Supermodel
Big Brother
The Gauntlet
Celebrity Rehab
Oprah (not sure that counts)

So while I’m working (mostly editing) late at night I have the tv on with one of my shows going.   My brain is moments away from turning to mush.  I won’t be surprised when Dr. Phil shows up on my doorstep for a intervention!

Now you know my dirty little secret. ;-)

Oh Angela you are not alone! I’m guilty too. I have all the CMT reality shows in my list as well – Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders, Nashville Star, Trick My Truck.

Marci - February 13, 2008 - 10:57 am

Oh Lord!!! You are soooo not alone. My poor DVR is on overload as well. We have two boxes so we can record FOUR at a time.

I have a TV in my office so I am constantly watching… My favs are American Idol, ANTM, Project Runway, Make Me a Supermodel, The Shot and I am sure there is something I am leaving out! I am watching a marathon of Project Runway right now in fact. You mention Dr Phil doing an intervention… Intervention is a good one too! LOL

Jennifer - February 13, 2008 - 2:21 pm

oh I have obessions with certain shows too, and I get like into this drama queen act if I miss them.

American idol, project runway, Grey’s Anatomy and Nip Tuck

you so funny girl!

Meggan - February 13, 2008 - 8:40 pm

I will admit that I abhor reality TV.

A Stroll Down Memory Lane…

If you can’t laugh at yourself then who can you laugh at. I was going through some photos on my hard drive and laughing the entire time so I thought I would share a few with you. They are of yours truly.

So this one my husband claims is my “little devil” photo because of the look on my face. I’m more concerned about how large my ears looked and the mullet that my hair was cut in to…

Now here’s one that can easily fall in to the what the hell was I thinking category. But in my defense I was like oh my God so like cool like whatever. If you didn’t use a can of hairspray on your hair in high school, you were like grody (yes even in Nashville we talked like Valley girls, but with a twang). Looking back at my high school year books I really think we were secretly trying to compete with each other to see who’s bangs could be the tallest and bushiest. Oh dear…. and while we are at it, I’d like to thank whoever it was that turned me on to getting my eyebrows waxed. Yes that was a turning point in my life. ;-)

What exactly am I laughing at in this next photo? Is it the fact that my sleeves are bigger than my head, am I laughing that I won the big bangs contest, we will never know. My poor permed hair, poodles of the world constantly chased me wanting to know my secrets to such poodly hair.

PS – Remember I grew up in Nashville and in the south bigger is better, the bigger the sleeves the better the dress was right? Bubble dresses were all the rage, and how about that blue ribbon blue color of it. I swear I probably knocked my date out with one of those sleeves. Poor guy, his face is blurred to protect the innocent. You know you had bad hair in the late 80′s early 90′s, yes you did, don’t pretend you didn’t ;-)

Ahh yes my friends and I having fun in German class.  I also think we must have known to sit in order of bang height, on this day I won third place, my friend Kim (blonde) won first place, my friend Stacy (in the middle) took home the silver medal and alas I left with the bronze.  I just didn’t tease them high enough, I probably needed more hairspray.

I’ll dig up some more later and post them as I find them. Now that we’ve made fun of me go check out these old school photos for a few giggles, one of my friends is the Dorothy Hamill haircut girl.

Morgan is a spitting image of you!

Tonya - February 8, 2008 - 1:57 pm

Auf Wiedersehen

I bet you didn’t know that I’m fluent in German did you?  Well… when I was about to go in to high school I didn’t want to go to the one that I was zoned for so I decided to try and get in to the school that I wanted to go to.  In order to do that I had to take a class that was not offered at my high school in order to go to the other one.  Bam.  German!  So I took German all through high school and then in college as well (why change midstream I thought?).  Although I’m here to tell you that German is doing me no good at all here in Southern California, well not that it did me any good in Nashville, TN either, in hindsight it wasn’t the best decision of helpful languages to learn but variety is the spice of life.  Now I’m learning Spanish with my ipod and some CD’s that I bought at Costco, I think it’s called Learn Spanish in 2 minutes or something silly like that.

Anyway…. I’m saying Auf Widersehen, which is Goodbye for all you non German knowers ;) , or people who have never seen the Sound of Music!  I’ll be heading out of town on Tuesday attending the One Light Workshop in Phoenix, AZ.  Words cannot express how excited I am about it.  I’ll be blogging from the workshop (if I have time).

You know you want to run and watch The Sound of Music don’t you ;) ?  Here’s So Long Farewell for your viewing pleasure (although my favorite is Edelweiss!)

I think I developed a crush on Christopher Plummer after hearing him sing this… Is that weird?
