I woke up this morning and I remembered that today is April Fool’s Day. Oh there will be no fooling Angela Calderon today. Ha…

I have my website email routed through gmail as a backup so that I can access it anywhere at anytime. So I noticed at the top of my email log in there was something that talked about back dating emails. I read it and though, oh my goodness this can’t be good, people can lie about sending emails then send it back dated and it will show up earlier in the inbox. I immediately was worried about what would happen if someone did this and I didn’t happen to check that far back to when they back dated it and I would miss the email.

SUCKER. Score 1 for Google for fooling me first thing this morning. Of course the testimonials clued me in to it being a prank.

Then I got a email from a friend who has been looking for a new car and she said that she had decided to go totally green and just get a top of the line bike instead. I asked her how in the world she was going to manage a commute from Manhattan Beach to Irvine everyday and she said, well I guess I’ll just leave early.

SUCKER. Score is now 2 for the pranksters and 0 for me.

Oh boy, yeah it gets better.

I was reading my friend Deanna’s blog and she was talking about how she was not going to be a photographer anymore, I was feeling so sad and upset because she is such a wonderful photographer, then I got to the part where she started getting silly with her prank and thought, ok I am going to Texas and kick her butt! Deanna you are a brat and you know it!

SUCKER. Score is now 3 for the pranksters and 0 for me.

I had to get gas on my way home from the office and the man behind the counter tells me that my card has been declined and that he is going to have to cut it up because of the code that came up as he processed it. What? This is my new replacement card I just got last week, has someone drained my checking account, OMG.

SUCKER. Score is now 4 for the pranksters and 0 for me.

Didn’t I say that I *knew* it was April Fool’s Day when I woke up? The man at the gas station said he had been pulling that joke all day long on the “regulars” that he normally sees. Ha ha very funny.

When I got to my daughter’s preschool I saw one of my friends leaving with her son, she had this awful look on her face and I asked her what is wrong. She said, they didn’t call you? I said no, she said well Morgan has paint all over her hair. WHAT? We just had to get it all cut off yesterday, what happened? Her reply….GOTCHA.

Final score: Pranksters: 5 and a big fat zero for me.

Apparently I have turned in to the world’s most gullible person today.

So have some fun and check out the Top 100 April Fool’s Day Hoaxes of all time. Oh and if you want to know how this all got started go here.

Oh and I have to share a photo that blog reader Jaime shared with me after she read my story from yesterday about my daughter cutting her own hair. Her sweet little four year old daughter decided to cut her own hair back in August and she cut it in the front. Jaime says she is proud to report that her daughter is getting closer and closer every day to having a cut little bob after this tragic hair experience. She said her hair used to be down to her shoulders before she cut it. Silly girls cutting their own hair! Looks like Miss E was going for a full on mullet! Still a cutie pie though!

It’s that time of year. I avoid them as much as I can, but this year, they are resorting to methods that you cannot get away from. Who am I talking about? GIRL SCOUTS! Now I have nothing against Girl Scouts, I was a Brownie and then a Junior Scout back in the day – woohoo go Troop 848 Cumberland Valley Council, Nashville, TN. But you know what it is, those darn cookies. I swear they put something highly addictive in them, and they call my name when I see the boxes. I can run but I cannot hide, they taunt me with “we’re only here once a year Angela, come on you know you want to buy some.” I even sold the most boxes one year for my troop, so yes I am a reformed cookie pimp. I know all their tactics, smile sweetly and tell people how it helps you go to camp.

Just who are these “Little Brownie Bakers” and what goes in to these cookies? I swear they are evil in a box with photos to distract you. Sure Vons & Ralph’s grocery stores carry generic versions of them year round for a few bucks cheaper, but it’s just not the same thing. Nothing compares to the real deal of Tagalongs & Thin Mints. I bet right now some of you have Thin Mints in your freezer, because that truly is the best way to eat them, when they are super cold with a big glass of milk. Tagalongs combine peanut butter and chocolate, come on, does it get any better than that?

So I thought I had successfully avoided the cookies this year, ha ha yep you aren’t going to get this sucker. Yeah, well not so fast. Friday I had to go to the ATM to make some business deposits and what do I see… what is that? A pack of Girl Scouts with a table set up next to the ATM selling Girl Scout Cookies. Man, why didn’t we think of that when I was selling them 200 years ago….oh wait, I don’t think we had ATM’s back then, were there ATM’s in 1980? So of course you can’t say, sorry I don’t have any cash, because well the cash is just a few pin numbers away. Darn it and then I thought, well maybe they will be out of Tagalongs and Thin Mints and the others, well I could care less, but nope, they had just opened a fresh cash. So before I knew what was happening I was buying a box of each. Samoa’s are good too but I was a good girl and didn’t get those.

All I’m saying is no one can eat just one. Girl Scout Cookies are meant to be eaten in pairs, or maybe three’s and sometimes fours if no one is watching.

I love music, I probably love it as much as photography. I sing in my car, in the shower, in my head, yep all the time. One day I was driving on the freeway and my cell phone rings and I hear – what in the world are you singing? It caught me off guard for a minute, then I hear laughing and a honk, I look over and one of my friends was on the freeway right by me. That day I was Mariah Carey and apparently I was putting on quite a concert in my car (shhh don’t tell anyone but I’ve been known to even hold a hairbrush aka microphone while I’m singing….err driving). I’m sure dogs were barking somewhere, I *so* do not have a good voice.

I will go ahead and admit that I quite often just make up words when I have no clue what is being sung. Remember that song that was big about 10 years ago called How Bizarre, yeah well in my world it was How Was I. That song called Can I Graduate, mhmm nope in my world it was called Can I Gravitate. Maybe I should have my hearing checked?

So this evening I was reading a magazine and my daughter was sitting next to me on the bed and she starts singing. Which of course I think my kids have the cutest voices ever so they could sing anything in the world and I would think it was super cute. So this is what she sang to me:

STOP…. and hug all of us….
before you take the bus…

say what? Morgan what are you singing? She then tells me she’s singing “Stop and get on the bus”. Hmm… Morgan can you sing it again?

STOP…and hug all of us….
before you take the bus…

LMAO oh boy, my baby girl has inherited her Mom’s bad mislyricitis (I made that word up feel free to use it in your daily conversation). So I’m sharing the video below so you’ll know what song she was actually singing. One of my friends in high school always thought that song called My Kinda Lover was My Candelabra. Who the heck sings about their candelabra? I don’t even own a candelabra, but maybe she did. Check out the Archive of Misheard Lyrics website for more silly replacement lyrics that will crack you up!

As I mentioned in my last blog entry, this weekend I was in San Diego helping out at a photography workshop. I had a wonderful time and it’s always so much fun making new friends, we camera nerds have so much fun together and laugh and giggle about things that most people would roll their eyes about. We stayed up way too late being silly and sharing our photo secrets and learning new ones.

We stayed at the W Hotel and I think I have never felt so unhip in my entire life. That is one happening hotel with lots of cool people standing around. I was almost beginning to wonder if they had hired people to actually just stand there and look hip and fun. When you walk in to the hotel there is music playing, everything is decorated very stylish, it’s a great vibe. I was expecting the music to stop playing as I walked in the door and to hear something over the intercom like this….. we have a code 12, code 12, we’ve got a Mom in zone 4, repeat this is not a drill, Mom in zone 4. Followed by security asking me if I’m lost. Ok so that only happened in my head, everyone was *very* friendly and nice, always saying hello and asking if there was anything that I needed. I love San Diego, I really do, however the one thing that drives me nuts are all of those darn one way streets downtown. Thank goodness for my GPS.

Even though I had a wonderful time I sure missed my husband and my kids. When I came home my son saw me drive up and I could hear him happily yelling “MOMMY’S HOME! MOMMY’S HOME!” The front door swings open and my kids came running out, my daughter (who is 3 1/2) stopped just before she got to my car and starts screaming at the top of her lungs. I’m sure you’ve all seen the old news clips from the 60′s when the Beatles would be on television and all the screaming girls would be standing there crying and screaming at the top of their lungs. Yep, that’s what she was doing. She was so excited to see me and was jumping up and down screaming and crying that *I* felt like a rock star. My kids are so awesome, coming home to lots of hugs and kisses is the best thing ever.

Here are a few images from the weekend, hope yours was as good as mine.

PS – Happy Birthday to my awesome friend and fellow photographer Pam!

I, Angela Calderon, hereby solemnly swear that…… I’m addicted to reality tv. I can’t even blame the writer’s strike on it, no I’ve been a reality tv junkie for many many years.

It all started out so innocently with MTV’s The Real World when I was in college. It was the original reality show (well to me, not sure if it was for real, but I know it was one of the first ones that set off the current wave of reality television). Then came MTV’s Road Rules, then this crazy little show that threw people on a island with nothing to eat, I think the name of it is Survivor (of course I’m sure you’ve never heard of it right ). It didn’t stop there, Top Model, The Mole, Project Runway, Big Brother, Top Chef, American Idol, Rockstar, Temptation Island, The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, The Apprentice, Extreme Home Makeover, Biggest Loser, The Amazing Race, Celebrity Rehab, Surreal Life, it goes on and on and on. How in the world do I find time to watch them all? My DVR loves me, and I stay up wayyy too late for my own good. These shopping bags under my eyes give away my secret.

My husband and I were horrified a few hours ago, what in the world were we to do. Tonight three shows are on at the same time, the DVR can only record two. Wait, there’s this weird thing hooked up to the other tv called a VCR and it might just help. Yes, sadly I confess that we are DVRing American Idol & The Biggest Loser and recording Big Brother on the tv in the bedroom.

Is there a 12 step program I need to sign up for? Come on reality tv junkies, chime in cause I know you are out there.

So this season’s reality schedule for us is something like this…

American Idol
Survivor
America’s Next Top Model
Make Me a Supermodel
Big Brother
The Gauntlet
Celebrity Rehab
Oprah (not sure that counts)

So while I’m working (mostly editing) late at night I have the tv on with one of my shows going. My brain is moments away from turning to mush. I won’t be surprised when Dr. Phil shows up on my doorstep for a intervention!

Now you know my dirty little secret.

If you can’t laugh at yourself then who can you laugh at. I was going through some photos on my hard drive and laughing the entire time so I thought I would share a few with you. They are of yours truly.

So this one my husband claims is my “little devil” photo because of the look on my face. I’m more concerned about how large my ears looked and the mullet that my hair was cut in to…

Now here’s one that can easily fall in to the what the hell was I thinking category. But in my defense I was like oh my God so like cool like whatever. If you didn’t use a can of hairspray on your hair in high school, you were like grody (yes even in Nashville we talked like Valley girls, but with a twang). Looking back at my high school year books I really think we were secretly trying to compete with each other to see who’s bangs could be the tallest and bushiest. Oh dear…. and while we are at it, I’d like to thank whoever it was that turned me on to getting my eyebrows waxed. Yes that was a turning point in my life.

What exactly am I laughing at in this next photo? Is it the fact that my sleeves are bigger than my head, am I laughing that I won the big bangs contest, we will never know. My poor permed hair, poodles of the world constantly chased me wanting to know my secrets to such poodly hair.

PS – Remember I grew up in Nashville and in the south bigger is better, the bigger the sleeves the better the dress was right? Bubble dresses were all the rage, and how about that blue ribbon blue color of it. I swear I probably knocked my date out with one of those sleeves. Poor guy, his face is blurred to protect the innocent. You know you had bad hair in the late 80′s early 90′s, yes you did, don’t pretend you didn’t

Ahh yes my friends and I having fun in German class. I also think we must have known to sit in order of bang height, on this day I won third place, my friend Kim (blonde) won first place, my friend Stacy (in the middle) took home the silver medal and alas I left with the bronze. I just didn’t tease them high enough, I probably needed more hairspray.

I’ll dig up some more later and post them as I find them. Now that we’ve made fun of me go check out these old school photos for a few giggles, one of my friends is the Dorothy Hamill haircut girl.

I bet you didn’t know that I’m fluent in German did you? Well… when I was about to go in to high school I didn’t want to go to the one that I was zoned for so I decided to try and get in to the school that I wanted to go to. In order to do that I had to take a class that was not offered at my high school in order to go to the other one. Bam. German! So I took German all through high school and then in college as well (why change midstream I thought?). Although I’m here to tell you that German is doing me no good at all here in Southern California, well not that it did me any good in Nashville, TN either, in hindsight it wasn’t the best decision of helpful languages to learn but variety is the spice of life. Now I’m learning Spanish with my ipod and some CD’s that I bought at Costco, I think it’s called Learn Spanish in 2 minutes or something silly like that.

Anyway…. I’m saying Auf Widersehen, which is Goodbye for all you non German knowers , or people who have never seen the Sound of Music! I’ll be heading out of town on Tuesday attending the One Light Workshop in Phoenix, AZ. Words cannot express how excited I am about it. I’ll be blogging from the workshop (if I have time).

You know you want to run and watch The Sound of Music don’t you ? Here’s So Long Farewell for your viewing pleasure (although my favorite is Edelweiss!)

I think I developed a crush on Christopher Plummer after hearing him sing this… Is that weird?
