A Saturday Sweetie

This morning I traveled to Beverly Hills to photograph a soon to be one year old baby girl. She and her Mom were so sweet and beautiful, we had such a good time. I’ll tell you, I think little Miss P liked me a lot. When her Mom was getting ready or when she was getting changes of clothing ready I would hold Miss P. She would just look at me and we would giggle. Now that I think about it, maybe she thought I looked funny. We had some wonderful conversations. We would both sing at the same time, toddler singing is *the* cutest, our song consisted of one word mmmmm. Maybe we will go on tour!

Here are a few photos of our morning together, I already miss little P, she gave good hugs, big grins and squeals.

Her Mom saw a shot like this on my website and wanted to try it, so we did!

This shot was totally by accident, her Mom was changing her and I was changing lenses, I looked up to see her watching me. I quickly snapped it, I love her expression.

She’s ready for summer!

And finally, there is nothing better than a good book!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Saturday like I did. I was also in front of the camera for a couple of minutes today. We had to get new passport photos taken for our vacation in August. Icck, now I know what my clients go through. I will *not* be sharing those passport photos, they are so not flattering!

Just One

Today I photographed a sweet baby girl who just turned one.  She is almost walking and just loved to stand up and laugh and smile.  She was such a little cutie pie and so in love with her Momma.  I love how happy she was and she really likes it when you sing to her.  Her Mom showed me some photos of Miss J’s baby sister who is seven and it was amazing, I felt like I was looking at the baby sitting in front of me, not someone else.  She looks EXACTLY like her big sister did when she was her age.  Such beautiful girls, such a beautiful family.

Take a look at a couple of photos from our morning together, she makes me smile!

Party Time

Remember my sweet little Goldie Locks client from a few weeks ago? Well today was part two of our session and I stopped by her birthday party to get some shots so her Mom & Dad could just enjoy the party. They were even kind enough to invite my little ones to tag along as well. See why I adopted myself to their family? They are some of the nicest people you could ever meet, even their friends and family were nice to us. Gosh, how do I get so lucky?

Here are a few shots from the big shindig today! I think everyone had a great time and let me tell ya, two year olds know how to party.

The beautiful birthday girl…

I hear this little dude is her boyfriend…so cute! I love his stylin’ hat!

Oh boy, a whole lotta Velveeta in this next shot, check out these silly little Cheesesters.

Only two years old and check out all the paparazzi!

I think that blowing out the candles means she’s officially two. I didn’t tell her Mom about all those tantrums that magically happen over night when they turn two. Shhh…

Thank goodness this was not the Oscars, can you imagine the catfight that would have happened on the red carpet if they showed up in the same dress? Lucky for us it’s a-ok and super cute for birthday parties! ;-)

TGIF

I stay up wayyy too late, it’s 3:00am and I just finished a bunch of work and I’m going to hit the hay for a couple of hours then get my two little stinkers ready for school.  I’m headed to San Diego for the weekend to meet up with some of my awesome friends and to help out at The Secret Photography Workshop.  It’s a great workshop for those of you photographers out there who are interested in getting in to commercial and/or modeling work.  Lots of great info!

Oh! I almost forgot, a few people have emailed me and asked me a few blog topic related questions so I wanted to post here as I’m often asked about it.  Other photographers have asked me if I feel like I’m being too personal or talking about silly random things on my business blog, or if I ever feel I’m not being “professional”.  Well, for me, the great thing about having your own business is the freedom to set your own rules and do your own thing.  I blog *exactly* how I talk in person.  Just ask some of my current clients who read my blog.  I’m a open book and I don’t mind sharing personal information or things going on in my daily life.  Choosing someone to document a time in your child’s life is a very important decision.  I feel that by being myself and blogging what comes to my mind that it gives my clients and potential clients a look in to who I am and what I’m about.  Many of my clients tell me that they felt like they already knew me and it was like a old friend was stopping by when I come to photograph their children.   The person on the blog is the same person that shows up at your door with a big bag of camera gear.  I have a southern twang and a silly way about me.

Also I’m often asked if I talk with my clients on the phone or if it’s strictly email.  Well I don’t think there is a blanket answer but I’ll do my best.  A lot of my clients like to talk to me when they first make contact, so I will respond to their emails and then give them a call shortly after.  We usually only talk on the phone 1-2 times prior to our session and keep most of the conversation to email as I’m busy and my clients usually are too.  It’s also good so that we can look back and reference things we talked about.  I was born with the gift of gab so I have no problem chatting on the phone so any potential clients or current clients you can always give me a call if you need something, but you’ll typically get a quicker response via email since I’m always on the go.

Enough rambling from me, I’ll be back on Sunday to share some images from the workshop.

Have a great weekend and if you are stuck inside due to the rain, or for my East Coast bloggers if you are stuck inside from the snow, curl up and enjoy a good book!  My little one takes at least 10 books to bed with her each night and “reads” them before bed (which means flipping through the pages really quickly and making up her own story).  You’ll also notice from the second photo that many times her books are upside down.

Goldilocks

I love repeat clients, I really do. I love being able to see how much the children have grown and seeing their parents is like meeting up with old friends again. This morning one of my little clients from last year came to see me and we had part one of her two year portraits. Part two will be in a few weeks when I photograph her birthday party, I’ll be there for play by play coverage and you, my blog readers, will get a first hand recap. Just prior to seeing me this morning little Miss A went to get her hair cut. Her Mom tells me it was a wild mess this morning when she woke up, hey that’s me every morning, move over Tina Turner cause you have not seen my morning bed head! Her hair was as beautiful as the last time I saw her and the best part is that she had all of those beautiful perfect little curls. A real life Goldilocks.

Miss A’s Mom & Dad told me that she gets serious when the camera comes out so they have tons of photos of her with her serious look but not as many with her smiling. So today’s mission….smiles! I think I can say mission accomplished. Oh and I’ll confess another reason why I love this family - A’s Dad is a total camera nerd like me and loves talking about glass (that’s lenses for you non nerds out there) and her Mom is so super sweet, I’m adopting myself to their family. I need to make a list of how many families throughout So Cal that I have adopted myself to. The more the merrier right? I wonder if I should have told them before I just up and joined their family. How does cousin Angela sound? ;-)

Ok I’m rambling, it must be the Nyquil talking - I’m still trying to kick the last bit of this crazy winter cold out and I’ve turned to Nyquil to get the job done. Although I’m wondering if anyone else ever has bizarre dreams when they take it? Maybe it’s just me?

Here are a few photos to share from our morning together. Today was a GORGEOUS day here in Los Angeles and if you weren’t outside you missed out on all the fun. Is spring around the corner? I sure hope so!

This is too much cuteness for me, she’s like a little doll, I love it…

Shhh…I snuck Mom & Dad in to one of the shots, this is what I call a CCD aka a Child Containment Device. When two year olds like to run, I turn to the CCD to help me out!
