After Sunday’s hair tragedy I think we are all adjusting just fine at the Calderon household. Little Miss decided she wanted me to take her picture tonight. I think someone must have taken my child and put someone else in her place because this simply cannot be the little girl who tells me to “put that camera down momma”. Hey I’m not about to pass up this request (even though it makes me wonder if she wants something in return – toys? candy? hmmm). She seems to be taking on a sassy new attitude to go along with her hip new hair style. Did I ever mention that this 3 1/2 year old is the boss of me, did I mention it’s all my fault? Did I mention that I wouldn’t have it any other way? So here is a little sass for ya. I hope everyone is having a great week so far.

Last night I asked my husband, where is Morgan? She’s in her room playing with her dollhouse. Nope, she was doing something else. She had climbed up to the cabinet with her school scissors and got them down, went and hid behind the treadmill and decided she was Paul Mitchell or Jose Eber and went to town on her hair. The photo below does not begin to show how bad it is, under the parts that are still long she cut it short underneath. I seriously cried when I saw what she had done. Her hair had finally grown out of the two year old mullet phase and was now long and beautiful. Until last night. She cut it sooo short in the back that we only had a few choices of what to do with the rest of her hair. So we opted for the short in the back and a little longer in the front. I wanted to keep it a little longer than we ended up with but her hair is so fine and thin underneath in the spots she cut that we had to change our plans.

Am I weird that I cried? I totally did like a big baby, I know it’s not the end of the world, but it sure was frustrating.

Here’s the photo of the back of her hair, just know it was way worse if you lifted up the long pieces to see how short she cut the underside.

I took my trustly little point and shoot camera with us to grab a shot of the cut.

On the way home from preschool this evening my daughter told me that she wanted to be a princess when we got home. As we walked through the door she ran to her room and picked out a dress, it was her Easter dress from last year and it still fits! Of course every princess needs a crown and necklaces too. I was able to snap a few photos before she told me to put my camera away. She had her class photos taken recently and she told me that they told her to always say cheese for pictures. Oh boy, that’s the opposite of what I tell children, so now she always says cheese anytime I have the camera out. Gotta work on getting that out of her mind!

Oh how I wish this was a post about when I turn thirty, but it’s not, as this year I’m going to be …..gasp…….. in my mid-thirties. How did that happen? Thirty-five? Oh well I still have until November to enjoy being considered early thirties.

This blog entry is about my son. Typically on our morning commute to school he asks his million and one why questions, those of you with kids know what I mean. Mommy why doesn’t Disneyland stay open all night, Mommy why do we lose sleep for daylight savings. One question after another and I don’t know about you but I’m not always at the top of my game in the morning to give great answers. I’ll confess to sometimes taking the easy way out and saying, I’m not sure honey or even worse, I’ll tell him, ask your Dad when he picks you up, he knows all about it.

So for the past week our morning question and answer time has been a little different. For some bizarre reason my son is obsessed with turning thirty. He turns seven in September so I’m guessing he likes to get a early jump on planning out the next couple of decades until he turns thirty.

It usually goes something like this… Mom… When I’m thirty I’m going to buy Disneyland. Mom, when I’m thirty I’m going to stay up all night. You get the idea. He also tells me what his career is going to be when he’s thirty and he told me he’s going to be a Dad when he’s thirty.

This morning was his sweetest when I’m thirty proclamation so far…

Spencer: Mommy…
Me: Yes honey…
Spencer: Mommy when I’m thirty I’m going to have a limousine
Me: Wow that would be really cool, then you wouldn’t have to worry about driving
Spencer: Well I would use it to come pick you up and take you shopping with all my money, and if you didn’t feel good I would have it take you to the Dr. If you ever needed anything I could give it to you. I’ll never let anyone hurt you…….. Mommy I love you.
Me: I love you too
Spencer: Mommy….
Me: Yes
Spencer: You’re the best Mommy I ever had.

Note to self, remember to bring Kleenex with me if he is going to continue talking like this. Luckily I had on my sunglasses because he made me cry. Have I mentioned how much I love my kids?

Of course I can’t post without having a photo to go along with it, so here’s my little dude, almost seven, but going on thirty.

Excuse me for the nerdy camera geek post which is to follow….. you’ve been warned!

I was lucky enough to be in the first group at my local camera shop to get one of the AMAZING new Nikon D3′s that came out a couple of weeks ago. Oh. My. Goodness. I don’t live that far from the Nikon headquarters so I’ve been considering driving over there and bowing down and telling them I’m not worthy. All I can say is WOW. It is one fantastic camera, but at the same time I have to say, it’s about time they gave us a full frame camera!

The first three shots below are SOTC/SOOC with only resizing and sharpen for web. I’m beginning to think I should send a love letter to Nikon. For the photographers who read my blog and are on the fence and thinking of taking the plunge, it truly is all that and then some.

Oh and the willing subject as my regular blog readers will know is my little sweetheart 6 year old.

I used the 85 1.8 on these.

and of course my little one thinks she’s Tyra Banks and needs to strike a pose every time she sees the camera…

This afternoon I went on a date. My client for this evening had to reschedule and I decided to make a date with my two little people. My original plan was to take them out and get some shots for our Christmas cards. I changed my mind and decided to wait until Thanksgiving, so my husband and I took them to the movies. We saw Bee Movie and it was great. Jerry Seinfeld rocks my world he’s so darn funny and it was such a cute movie. I still miss seeing new Seinfeld Episodes, thank goodness for DVDs.

I had my point and shoot camera in my purse as always and I snapped a quick pic of my kids when we were waiting outside. Of course Morgan isn’t looking, she had her toy cat with her and she’s telling her about the movie we were about to see and the $15 bag of popcorn we were going to buy .

Tomorrow I’ll be back with client images to share.

My family has this little tradition that we started when my son was born. The first week in October we always head down to Irvine to Tanaka Farms. Tanaka Farms is not just a pumpkin patch, it’s an actual farm where the Pumpkins are grown. They also grow lots of other fruits and vegetables and they have some really tasty strawberries too. If you go, you simply must buy a tray of their chocolate dipped strawberries. YUMMY!

My two little ones were not in the most cooperative of moods today and they were not interested in helping me fill my desire to get some photos of them in the patch. I always get asked by my clients if I have a lot of amazing photos of my own kids, and I always tell them, well no, I actually have better photos of all my client’s children and it’s 100% true. My kids know all of my tricks and funny sounds and they are *so* over having a camera in their face. Oh well, I take what I can get!

Tanaka Farms is such a wonderful thing to take your children to, they have a petting zoo, little atv rides, arts & crafts, tractor rides, games, food and more.

Here are some shots from our morning on the farm.

This little pumpkin was sitting on one of the arts & crafts tables…

My daughter absolutely loves animals, here she is talking with her new friend named Sugar

I swear this goat was talking about me and mumbling something, look you can see him talking out of the side of his mouth…

I tell you, Flo was *the* most fashionable goat on the farm today. Look how cute she is rockin’ her sassy pink collar. You go girl!

Umm, someone is a messy eater…

They have this really cool corn maze in the middle of the farm, we went in and got lost as usual. I needed my GPS because everyone knows how bad with direction I am.

We promised to be nice…

Just before we left I managed to get them semi close to each other, boy don’t they look thrilled that we are leaving? They wanted to stay longer.

Pumpkin prices are pretty reasonable, tractor rides are $5 (kids under 2 are free), the petting zoo is $3 (don’t quote me on that, but I *think* that’s what it was), the food for the animals is 5 for $6 or $1.50 each. Of course I’m a sucker and I bought t-shirts too. It’s so much fun, though and all worth it, I think it’s very reasonably priced.

Morgan: Mommy can I wear my Tinkerbell shoes to school?

Me: No honey, we need to save them for Halloween. You don’t want to get them dirty do you?

Morgan: Yes

Now there were a couple of choices that I had at this point. #1 was to spend an hour trying to convince Morgan that the shoes just were not for preschool, or #2 I would just let her wear them so I wouldn’t be late getting in to the office. I guess this photo will clue you in to what choice I went with. Some days you just have to pick your battles.

Today’s score for those keeping track is Toddler: 1 Mommy: 0.

Ok back on track…

Tonight my 5 year old lost his first tooth! It’s been loose for a while and I thought he might lose it in Hawaii but it held on for him to put it under his own pillow tonight. We put it in a ziplock bag and it’s now safe under his pillow waiting for the tooth fairy.

Here he is with his new smile and his missing tooth.

Today I went out with a little boy and girl and followed them around as they enjoyed a day at a little carnival, the candy shop and a walk around some little shops . Ok I confess, I took the day off to spend with my son and daughter. I haven’t taken them out for fun photos in so long that it was long overdue. They were surprisingly cooperative, I think they were taking it easy on me today since I have been giving them a break with my camera.

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend, here’s a few shots from our colorful day. June gloom couldn’t stop us from having fun!
