In the wee hours of the morning I heard them tiptoeing down the hall with little giggles that were so delightful. When I opened my bedroom door the hall floor was covered in confetti and green foil shamrocks. There were green balloons and a few little presents left by the magical little doors.
That’s how I’m describing it to my children.
When I was growing up I remember a friend of mine always told me these funny stories of things that “Leprechauns” did at her house on St. Patrick’s Day. They turned the milk green, toilet water was green, hanging pictures were turned upside down, toyboxes were emptied in to a pile in the floor. When she told me about it her eyes were so big and she told me how magical it was.
I never forgot about that and I knew that when I grew up and had children that I wanted to do that for them. So each year I do just that and decorate one of our halls with lots of green and St. Patrick’s Day decorations and the “Leprechauns” leave a few little gifts for the kids.
This year I bought the cutest little fairy doors on etsy from ClayByKim. You have to check out her stuff, and she provides THE BEST customer service and is so kind and nice. We need more good hearted people like her in the world. Anyway, they are only a few inches tall and you put them along the baseboard or whatever you want and that’s how the tooth fairy, leprechauns, whoever magically comes in to your home.
The night I put them up the kids were in the living room and I quickly put them in place and then I started yelling OH MY GOODNESS and they came running. I said where did these come from? I think I saw Leprechauns running inside and slamming the door. So ever since that day my children have knocked on the little doors and sat there and told stories to each other about what must be inside and what they would do if they were able to go through the doors. It is truly the sweetest thing ever.
So last night after they were finally asleep I was able to play Leprechaun and do all of my silly little antics. When my children woke up this morning the smiles on their faces were incredible and the questions were never ending. Did you see them Mama? Did they have little feet? Do you know if they like pizza? What kind of car did they drive?
I know this sort of silliness isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but they enjoy it and so do I. I hope everyone is wearing their green today and that you don’t get pinched!

My Littlest Leprechaun being cheesy!
