See ya later Alligator…

Today is our last day here in Los Angeles, tonight we leave for Atlanta.  A few things to tell you…

 - I owe some of you emails, for LA clients who sent me well wishes, you are the best ever!  Thank you!  Don’t forget that I will be coming back and doing sessions here in LA from time to time.  If I have a few of you interested at the same time we can get it on the calendar.

- All of you need to cross your fingers, think good thoughts, pray, do a dance, anything so that my four year old will suddenly decide that being in the car isnt that bad.  Oh boy, I need a lot of help from you all on that one.  Her favorite hobby these days is screaming at the top of her lungs.  Do they sell minivans that have a south proof booth in them?  Maybe one that has a Britax car seat in that sound proof booth?  Am I on to something here?  I wonder if the Pimp My Ride people could do that for me?  Oh well too late now…

- Can I just say that one of the best things about starting this trip is being able to stay in hotels along the way and to once again sleep in a BED!  Man the air mattress/floor combo isn’t kind to my 34 year old back.

- I had *the* best facial last week from my faaaaaavorite skin care guru Kevin Alexander at Joe Oliveri Salon in Redondo Beach.  Seriously, if you are in LA give him a call, he is awesome.  I wish I could pack him in my suitcase and take him with me.  My face will miss his awesome facials!  My eyebrows are already crying.  Hmm maybe I should just fly back for a facial and a brow wax every month?  Is that a business expense?  I think so! ;-)

- I think on the way out I have to eat at In N Out Burger, they don’t have those in Georgia.  East Coasters, just trust me when I say its so yummy.  Californians - get yours Animal Style, trust me, you’ll love it!

- Thank you to all of the wonderful, amazing, funny, friendly every adjective you can think of people that I have met in my 11 years here in California.  I’ve made so many wonderful friends, met so many awesome clients (who are now also my friends too) that I am sad to leave behind.  Please don’t forget that I’m always just a email away and I’ll still be rambling on here on my blog just like always.

- Thanks to the state of California and Mother Nature for that sweet little 5.4 earthquake as a going away present.  Do you know that is the first one I’ve ever felt.  I’ve always been asleep or just not paying attention before.  That was one freaky experience on Tuesday I tell ya!

- My husband thinks my southern accent is going to get thicker since I’m going back to the south.  I’m from Nashville so I don’t think mine is as thick as a Jawwwjuh accent.  I am *so* ready for some southern hospitality.

I’ll be blogging along the way, so stay tuned!

And the Winner is…

Lori Wlliams come on down and claim your prize.  Email me (angela at angelacalderon.com) so I can send you the gift certificate for your choice of the a oh so cute and cuddly Bestever baby bear mat.

The way I drew the winner was oh so scientific.  I had exactly 253 entries, so I called my son on the phone (I’m at the office) and I told him to pick a number between 1 and 253.  He chose number 161 which just so happened to be Lori’s email number.

For those of you who didn’t win (or for those stinkers who didnt enter ;-) ) you can still get a babymat at ShopBestver.com and if you enter in coupon code: photobaby you can save 10% on your entire purchase.  This coupon is valid until August 15, 2008.

All my wordly posessions (minus laptop + camera + lenses) are sitting out on the curb waiting to be taken to Atlanta.  Ok well they aren’t just sitting there, they are in the moving containers.  Godspeed all my junk (er I mean valuables), have a safe trip and I will see you at our new home.  I have to tell you, I am lucky that I’m good at Tetris because you would not believe the amount of stuff I was able to pack in to those tiny little containers.  Phew!

Portrait of a 150 year old…

Today I traveled up the 405 freeway (which was insane by the way, a RV was on fire and it looked like I was driving in to hell with all that smoke and fire going across the freeway, I hope the drivers are ok) to photograph a 150 year old.  Ok ok so my little client today is only six months but his christening dress is 150 years old!  His Mom was photographed in this dress when she was three months old, so his wonderful grandmother just couldn’t resist the chance to try and recreate the same photo all these years later.  He came all the way from North Carolina for our session today.

Now I tell you, this little guy was so sweet and such a trooper, especially since it was pushing 100 degrees today, he just smiled and laughed and had the best time.  So he’s wearing the same christening dress and sitting in the same chair that his mother sat in (although it’s been reupholstered so it looks a little different now)

So here is the super happy and oh so sweet little Connor, he makes me smile

You shouldn’t do drugs …guy…

My kids love pancakes, in fact they would eat breakfast for dinner every night if they could. So sometimes we will go to have pancakes on Thursday nights (because well kids get free pancakes on Thursday night, score!). We always seem to go around the same time and it’s the same waitress who serves us so I guess my kids are the regulars.

There is always a man who is there washing the windows. He’s an Australian man (as he has told my son many times before) and he always has on his little portable old school radio with giant headphones. While he is cleaning the windows outside he will have his radio on and he always has a cigarette hanging from his mouth. Every time we see him my 6 year old son tells me that cigarettes are not good for you and they can ruin your life and it kills your lungs. They learned about saying no to cigarettes and drugs at school and my father passed away a few years ago - he had emphysema from smoking since he was a teenager, so when my son asks about him we tell him that it’s not a good thing to do.

My daughter copies her brother in everything he says and does and today, oh boy she decided to go big. The window washer came inside and he said hello to the kids like he always does and my little one decided it was time to inform him how bad his smoking habit was. She put down her fork and looked up at him with her big blue eyes and said:

YOU SHOULD NOT DO DRUGS, CIGARETTES ARE DRUGS…GUY…. AND IF YOU DO DRUGS YOU WILL HAVE NO LIFE…MAN…..

She was very matter of fact in her own almost four year old way. The gentleman being ever so polite and kind responded to her and said that she was right and that it’s a very bad habit and that he hopes she will never ever smoke. When he was done speaking she looked at him and said, you should have a lollipop instead and she handed him her tootsie roll pop that she got from the delivery from my photo lab today. (they always put one in the box with every order that I get)

This little sassy girl of mine, while overly outspoken is already wise beyond her years and I am proud to be her mom.

So remember….as my almost four year old says…. You shouldn’t do drugs…guy.
