Giving *is* Awesome

Last year I gave away a portrait session and prints to a deserving family who was nominated by a friend.  This year I joined in the giving going on over at http://www.givingisawesome.com .  Kristen from Essential Imagery put all of this together and photographers from around the world are donating their time, talent and art to deserving families all around the world.  The concept is simple…

The rules:

* You cannot nominate yourself, and the person nominated must sincerely be incapable of purchasing my services. (Being unable to make mortgage payments for a two-million-dollar-vacation-home in Paris does not qualify as sincere financial need.)  Times are tough, many people have lost their homes, jobs and hope.  Custom portraiture is the last thing they are able to afford right now.

* The nominee must reside in Atlanta, GA or immediate surrounding areas. Tell me who you know, what they’re experiencing, and why they deserve my artwork. Please include a way to contact both your nominee and yourself as well.

*You must email the nomination and story to giving@angelacalderon.com

I am so excited about this and I hope that you will all take a few minutes and think of someone who you could nominate to receive this very special gift!

It’s Fall Ya’ll | Atlanta Children’s Photographer

See now that I am back in the south I don’t stick out like a sore thumb when I say ya’ll.  I still said it during my 11 years in LA and it would immediately be followed by the question, oh you aren’t from LA are you?

Fall here in Atlanta is BEAUTIFUL!  The weather is crisp and so are the leaves, everything is golden and just gorgeous.  Yes I’m still behind on my blogging (what else is new right?) so I decided to put several of my recent cuties all in one big post.

I told ya’ll that I’m declaring myself Atlanta’s official twin photographer right?  Another set of twins and their little brother, these little guys were so much fun and look how cute they look!

Look at these curls on this toddler boy, oh my goodness and those chocolate brown eyes. PERFECT!

This little one flew in from Los Angeles for her photo shoot!  I’ll be photographing her when I’m in LA next month at her home there.  She was so sassy, I loved it!

Look at how sweet this little one is with his beautiful Mommy.  I love their fall colors they are wearing!

This handsome little guy was so polite and sweet, such a good boy.

And last but not least a beautiful maternity client who is having a baby girl this week!!!

These are all FABULOUS!!! Did I ever tell you, I didn’t say “y’all” until I moved to Boston, of all places? Of course I can’t live without the word now… it’s indispensible, and much sweeter than saying “you guys”!

Laura Veraska - October 27, 2008 - 4:22 am

Julie - October 27, 2008 - 9:09 am

18 | Atlanta Toddler Photographer

Today little Miss M came to the studio for her 18 month portraits.  We started out just like most sessions for little ones that age.  A little unsure of who this stranger is, she was clinging to her mommy.  She walked around and was pointing to the photographs of other babies and children in the studio, she found one she liked and kept “talking” to her.  It only took a little bit of time before she was coming over and hugging me, cutest thing ever.

She loved the little chair we have in the studio and even decided she wanted to stand up in it!  Not to worry, her beautiful Mommy was right there ready to catch her if she took a tumble.  Thank you to Miss M and her Mommy for being so sweet today!

Here are a few from our morning together.  I love the little freckle on her chin, it’s her signature mark!

This one is more of an outtake but I love how cute she looks here, it reminded me of my little one who loves to do the same thing with her dresses

Off to a sweet start… | Atlanta Family Photographer

First let me tell you that when they call it HOTlanta they aint joking!  As they say “it’s not the heat it’s the humidity”, I’m hear to tell you every single word of that is true.  Phew!

This evening I met my clients at a beautiful park in East Cobb County.  They have the best last name ever and I hope they don’t mind me sharing, it’s Sugar.  How cute is that and that they are my first Atlanta clients and they have a sweet last name. ;-)   I had such a wonderful time, they were so much fun and were so very sweet and kind.  We had a mission today and that was to get some shots of the three generations of Sugar Men.  Grandpa Sugar was in visiting from New York so this was the perfect opportunity for photos!  Later on this week we will have part two of our session and it will be all about little J.

Thank you to the Sugar family to living up to your name and being so sweet and welcoming to me and for braving the crazy heat together!

Just a side note that I’m currently turning cartwheels in my front yard (ok not really, I would probably break my neck) but our “stuff” arrived today in the moving crates and after 2+ weeks I get to sleep in my own bed.  You read that right, no floor,  no crazy air mattress, yes my very own bed.  My back is already thanking me!

Here are a few sneak peeks from this afternoon!

Don’t you just love those dark eyes and gorgeous red hair he has.  So so cute!

Mission accomplished…

and we can’t forget Mr. J’s beautiful Mommy (who reminds me so much of my friend Monica back in LA)…

He’s a cutie! Love love love those eyes–great captures!

Looks like we made it…

This post is long overdue, however we just had our internet service connected today. We arrived on Sunday night so it took us exactly three days to travel from LA to Atlanta. Phew! We had plans to get out and do things and make more stops, but let me tell you, when it’s 125 in Phoenix and 108 in Texas, we just stayed in the car with the a/c cranking! I’m happy to report Little Miss was wonderful, however her brother, oh boy, he was a little challenging, which surprised us because he’s normally the easier of the two.

One night we tried to find a hotel room in Oklahoma and I swear the entire state was booked, we must have stopped at least 12 different times in different cities and there was nothing.

Our stuff doesn’t arrive until Saturday, so this week we’ve been sitting and sleeping on the floor. OUCH my poor back is not a happy camper! This afternoon a storm was rolling through and the power went out, when it came back on the security system went nuts and we couldn’t figure out how to turn it off so we had a visit from some wonderful police officers who came to check up on us. I’m sure the neighbors are already thinking there goes the neighborhood with those crazy California people setting off alarms and causing problems only after a few short days here. I promise we are nice! ;-)

Texans are friendly drivers according to their welcome sign… (Oh and I know I am supposed to show a Georgia sign but it was super late when we arrived and I had a severe case of driver’s foot cramp, so I’ll have to take a picture of the Georgia sign some other day!)

It’s true, everything *is* really big in Texas. We saw the 2nd largest cross in the Western Hemisphere. It was HUGE and was right off the interstate.
Interstate 40 follows along historic Route 66

And my regular blog readers know, I love using the fisheye. Spencer & Morgan outside our new home…

and the friendly police officers who came out today when the security system went nuts
(a la point and shoot camera ;-) )
