Baby Bryce | Atlanta Newborn Photographer

Remember a few weeks ago I posted a pregnant belly and told you all to guess if it was a boy or a girl?  Well baby boy Bryce came by the studio today for his newborn session.  I’m telling you, these Atlanta babies are being so good to me!  They are all so very very sleepy!  It’s so important for newborn photo sessions to take place within the first few weeks while the babies are still sleepy and bendy, and before newborn acne kicks in, so his Mommy and Daddy get a gold star for coming in asap after he was born!

Bryce was so cute, I think he was one of the most cooperative newborns I’ve met.  His big brother even flew in to town to be a part of our session, he looked so proud and happy to have a new little brother.  His Mom & Dad are so cute too, lots of smiley faces today from them.  They say pregnant women glow but his Mommy was just beaming, glowing, on cloud nine.  Bryce only fussed one time and his Dad talked to him softly and rocked him back to sleep.  I don’t know about you but seeing a Dad with his new baby is the coolest thing ever, it totally changes them.

Here are a few from our session this afternoon…

With his big brother

See what I mean about how sleepy he was, PERFECT!!!!

And with his beautiful Mama, she is so much fun, we just giggled the entire time.

I met him seven years ago

The anticipation of meeting someone new is so stressful. Will they like me, will I say or do the wrong things? Am I good enough? Seven years ago this wonderful little person came in to my life, he cried his way in to the world and continued to cry for months and months (colic reared its ugly head at us and would not let go for six months). He was a little orange at first, of course I thought he had a tan like my husband, the nurses had a few giggles over that one. He spent two weeks in the NICU, I think I cried every single day of those two weeks because I was afraid that he would never come home with us. But he did. He is my sunshine, he is sometimes a little grumpster, he is my straight A student, he is my little helper, he is the smile that greets me at 3:00pm every day when he comes home from school, he stole my heart.

It was so hard when he was born to ever think past those first few rough days when he was sick to even think that things would be ok and that he would be the strong, smart, funny little boy that he is today. I didn’t know that he would end up with these beautiful curls that make people stop us in the grocery store. I didn’t know that he would tell me that he thinks I’m pretty every day, I didn’t know that he would want to hold my hand when we walk in to a store.

He loves pizza, Sponge Bob, Star Wars, dessert, Disneyland, sand, dirt, trains, costumes, surf boards, asking questions, talking about his limo business he’s going to have when he grows up and hats.

Today we celebrate his seventh birthday, my sweet baby boy Spencer. What a wonderful seven years it has been with him in my life. Happy Birthday to my little prince!  Oh and it’s also Talk Like A Pirate Day too!

Baby Jasper | Atlanta Newborn Photographer

This sweet little baby boy came to the studio earlier this week and he traveled oh so far…. about 2 minutes!  His mom was looking at the directions on how to get to the studio and realized that they were just around the corner, that’s my kind of commute!

When they arrived Jasper was wide awake and was ready to party, but let me tell you he was so good, such a sweet baby.  Although he did use his Dad for a diaper a few times, it seems like it’s always that Dad’s that babies like to do that to during photo shoots.  His parents were wonderful and obviously so in love with their sweet baby and each other.

If any of you out there have a newborn or you are a photographer who has newborn clients, I am here to tell you about something that will make your life so much better.  Baby Jasper fell right to sleep as soon as I plugged in my sound machine.  It has ten different sounds to choose from, Jasper preferred the heartbeat and the white noise options.  It’s only $19.99 from Target and as a Mom of a little one who had colic, it’s a priceless thing to have!

Here are a few little sneak peeks of this sweet little guy.

As you can see from this shot, he was starting to get sleepy, I love baby yawns, so so very cute.  I had just plugged in the sound machine just before I took this, I like how his Dad is looking at him, such a sweet moment.

He got a little hungry so his beautiful Mom nursed him and then we put the heartbeat sound on and he fell asleep.

Where were you?

When I was growing up I remember hearing adults discussing where they were when JFK was assassinated, and I asked my Grandma about it, she said you always remember where you were when something tragic happens.

On September 11, 2001 I remember exactly where I was.  I was 36 weeks pregnant with my son Spencer, I was at home on bedrest and I was asleep.  My husband called me and asked me if I had heard what happened, and he told me to turn on the television.  I was horrified at what I saw and I was so confused and couldn’t believe what was happening.  Things like that weren’t supposed to happen here, I think I must have cried a million times that day.  My husband’s office was in Hollywood in a high security building about 35 miles from our home.  Shortly after the first plane hit the World Trade Center there were bomb threats to his office and they had to evacuate the building.  He came home and we had to go to the hospital for stress tests on the baby.

As we sat in the hospital while I was hooked up to the fetal monitors I kept thinking to myself, please please little one do not be born today.  I must admit I was very afraid, I was wondering if Los Angeles would be the next target.  I also didn’t want my son to be born on a day of such sadness.  He wasn’t born that day, he waited 8 days and arrived on 9/19.

I cannot believe it’s been seven years since this happened to out country.  I hope today you will all remember to give your loved ones extra hugs and kisses and be grateful for them and for the time you have with them.  We often forget how precious time is and how quickly our lives can change.

I took this photo in 1999 on my last trip to New York prior to 9/11.  I was still using film back then and it was such a windy day that I couldn’t hold the camera still and my hair kept flying in front of the lens.  We were on the boat to go out to the Statue of Liberty.

laura h. - it's beautiful. thank you for sharing. and yes, i remember where i was too... and all the emotions that came with it. i'll be blogging about it later today.

Jennifer - this is still very beautiful. WOW, I too was prego on that day, I was 34 along and my husband had went out early that morning just to take a ride in the country side and when we arrived at his parents house to visit they had it on the news and as soon as we walked in the second plane live crashed into the tower, then we sat there in disbelief and shock watching the news coverage for the rest of the day and week. This was a very sad day in history and I will always remember, I remember what I wore, what the weather was like and what I was doing. wow, still you look back and it hits you all over again.

Lisa - Thank you for sharing that image--it's heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time.

lisa - I too was pregnant with my 1st son- just about 8 weeks along. I remember thinking I was glad my little one was with me and I could protect him totally (if only for 9 short months) from this cruel world. The image is striking. The horizon looks empty now, a reminder that we should never take our freedom for granted. There is always someone out there ready to try and take it away.

allie - I totally remember what I too was doing that day- thanks for sharing your story. very very sad day.

abbey - Hey there!!! Wonderful shot... I totally agree. I was an elementary teacher and had to continue on with my day as not to alarm the 4 and 5 year olds in my class.... very tough!! Here is my tribute.... I am so thankful for the men and women protecting us!! www.photoblog.com/abbeyh13/

Shetal - My little one was about 7 months old and I remember standing in front of the TV later in teh day with my husband while my son was in the play pin. I was horrified and could not believe what was happening to others and how in so many ways it was happening to me....Then I turned to look at my little one and for the first time, he had pulled up in his pin and was standing and holding onto the side! It hurt me to have to write in his baby book on a day like that one - but it also gave me hope and a little peace at a time when nothing seemed inherently "good". "A baby is God's opinion that the world should go on." - Carl Sandburg

Amanda Elkins - My son was born that day.

Kris B. - Like you, I was pregnant. On bedrest and a little ticked that Regis and Kelly was not on because of news, I watched what was going on. I got up to call my husband at work and tell him what was going on, and as I was on the phone with him, the plane entered the second tower. Being that I live so close to Ft. Detrick, Camp David, DC, etc., I was afraid I would never meet my daughter. I wrote my dauther a letter telling her how much I love her and if something happened to me and she made it, I wanted her to know some things about me. I thought... geesh, I waited til I was 30 to have a baby, I've been on bed rest for a couple weeks, I was sick the first 30 weeks of my pregnancy and now I'm not going to meet her. I asked my husband to please come home at lunch. I didn't want to be alone. Visiting Ground Zero was very hard. All those emotions came flooding back.

Saved by a H.E.R.O.

When I say it’s never a dull moment in my life, I mean it, I swear I don’t think I could make up the crazy stuff that happens to me if I tried.

On my way home from a client session this afternoon I’m cruising along on the Interstate (Freeway) and it’s rush hour with a gazillion cars all around.  Just a few miles before the traffic was moving along very nicely and it suddenly slowed down as I was getting closer to the downtown area, today is truly one day where I am thankful that it had slowed down, I don’t know what would have happened if I had been going a normal interstate speed of 60+mph.  Traffic had slowed to about 20 mph and I hear a really loud boom, pop and then it sounded like someone was dragging my car on it’s side through a pile of rocks.  The alert in my car went off, WARNING FLAT TIRE, but it said not only one it said FOUR! ICCK!  Now, I don’t think it could have picked a worse place for this to happen, I was right smack dab in the middle lane and as luck would have it in the section I was in there was not really a shoulder area on either side of the fast or slow lanes.

I pulled over as best I could to the wall, still sticking out in slow lane traffic.  About ten minutes later traffic started picking up.  My car was right at a point of a curve, I couldnt really go any further because it would lead to an even less of a shoulder than there already was.  Also I couldn’t get out to see if all four tires really were flat because there were cars zooming by very quickly and big semi trucks (which already freak me out).

I got on the phone and called my roadside service who said that it was going to be at least 90 minutes.  So I’m waiting, and keeping my eyes closed because of how close the cars were coming to me then quickly pulling to the side.  Finally a *wonderful* police officer showed up and flared the interstate and called the HERO team to come and help me.  They blocked off traffic and had me drive my car down the interstate until we reached the section that had a large shoulder.  Talk about scary driving, the car was swerving all over the place even with me barely pushing on the gas.  My front driver’s side tire had completely ripped away from the hub on the inside part and my back driver’s side tired was very low.

The HERO team quickly changed my tire (at no charge, how awesome is that) and put air in to my back tire.  On my way home every, single tire shop was closed, so I luckily made it all that way on a donut (over 40 miles).

Check back tomorrow as I will be sharing a few sneak peeks of my awesome clients from today, they deserve their own blog post, instead of being lumped in with my tire talk.

Thank you to the very nice police officer and the Hero team for saving the day!

Danna Bowes - oh man!! what a nightmare.....I would have been in a panic!! and look at you, remembering to take pics too...lol

waynette - That was nice. I think we have something like that here but it is not called the same thing. Yesterday I had a bad day. Long day at work. Todd yelled at me about stuff going on with our house, insurance, roofers not completing the job. Then I call my daughter to remind her to register to vote and she tells me she had just had a car wreck. I find out she is shaken but not hurt. Car is messed up. Other people are OK too. I call my husband during the crappy traffic to give him the updates of the roofers and the car wreck and some redneck has lost a log off his truck on the interstate and I am going 70 mph with rush hour traffic. I can not swerve or I wreck in a ditch or in another car – so I hit it and I hear it hitting my tires and under my car. I pull over to check the damage. My HERO pulls up right next to me. A stranger wanted to check on me. He saw me checking my car and wanted to make sure everything was OK. He said he would not want his wife stuck on the interstate in rush hour traffic. We both looked and thought everything was OK. He was in a big truck – helped me get merge back in to traffic and I was on my merry way. So I am curious – what in the world did you do to mess up two tires? Driving around some construction area? So sorry? I am glad it was not a blow out when you were driving.

Xtina Solis - omg! leave it to the Atlangela to be cool under pressure! Oh man 4 flats? Word up to the HERO team! I'm glad everything turned out ok!

Terrilyn - Wow! What a cool thing though, the H.E.R.O. dude. I find it totally awesome that you still manage to whip out the camera and take AWESOME pics under pressure! lol

Julia - I still can't believe this happened!! SO glad you're okay!

Kimberly Hill - So scary, Angela! Glad you're okay and your own HERO came by.

PamN - Oh, wow, and it had to be in the worse traffic spot in the world! Glad all is ok!
