Get Down!!!

My clients are always asking me what they can do to improve their snapshots. I tell them that I refuse to give them my classified information and that if they knew they would stop hiring me and do it themselves. Then I yell nanny nanny boo boo and run. ;) But really, one of my favorite tips is to get down. Get down on the child’s level. Kids spend all of their time looking up at us trying to see what is going on, it’s time we all get down and see things from their point of view. It’s much more interesting in their little worlds instead of up here in the crazy adult one. Photos look so much better from a child’s point of view. I’ve put a few shots below taken down on the child’s level so you can see what I mean.

So the next time you are chasing around your little one don’t be afraid to get down on their level, I even dare you to get down on your tummy, I promise your results will be worth it. Just so you know, every time I get down on the ground I hear songs in my head. It’s either Earth Wind & Fire’s Let’s Groove (because they talk about “we can boogie on down”) or I hear Kool & The Gang’s Get Down On It. So how can you lose by hearing those two fab songs and getting great shots of your child. The videos are below the photos, so now you too can be inspired to go low! And if you don’t get a big smile on your face when watching those old school videos then we can no longer be blog friends. How can you not smile at guys singing a catchy tune while wearing space suits? I remember when I was in junior high and the big thing in Nashville was to go to the skating rink and they always played these songs. Do they still have roller skating rinks? I suddenly feel old, or maybe I’m vintage, that sounds hipper right?

You crack me up. And yes, they still have roller rinks. My best friend called me from Atlanta last week to tell me she went to a retro roller party and it was like a timewarp back to 1984. With the carpeted benches and locker room smell and bad pizza and all!

As always, your work blows me away.
