I stay up wayyy too late, it’s 3:00am and I just finished a bunch of work and I’m going to hit the hay for a couple of hours then get my two little stinkers ready for school. I’m headed to San Diego for the weekend to meet up with some of my awesome friends and to help out at The Secret Photography Workshop. It’s a great workshop for those of you photographers out there who are interested in getting in to commercial and/or modeling work. Lots of great info!
Oh! I almost forgot, a few people have emailed me and asked me a few blog topic related questions so I wanted to post here as I’m often asked about it. Other photographers have asked me if I feel like I’m being too personal or talking about silly random things on my business blog, or if I ever feel I’m not being “professional”. Well, for me, the great thing about having your own business is the freedom to set your own rules and do your own thing. I blog *exactly* how I talk in person. Just ask some of my current clients who read my blog. I’m a open book and I don’t mind sharing personal information or things going on in my daily life. Choosing someone to document a time in your child’s life is a very important decision. I feel that by being myself and blogging what comes to my mind that it gives my clients and potential clients a look in to who I am and what I’m about. Many of my clients tell me that they felt like they already knew me and it was like a old friend was stopping by when I come to photograph their children. The person on the blog is the same person that shows up at your door with a big bag of camera gear. I have a southern twang and a silly way about me.
Also I’m often asked if I talk with my clients on the phone or if it’s strictly email. Well I don’t think there is a blanket answer but I’ll do my best. A lot of my clients like to talk to me when they first make contact, so I will respond to their emails and then give them a call shortly after. We usually only talk on the phone 1-2 times prior to our session and keep most of the conversation to email as I’m busy and my clients usually are too. It’s also good so that we can look back and reference things we talked about. I was born with the gift of gab so I have no problem chatting on the phone so any potential clients or current clients you can always give me a call if you need something, but you’ll typically get a quicker response via email since I’m always on the go.
Enough rambling from me, I’ll be back on Sunday to share some images from the workshop.
Have a great weekend and if you are stuck inside due to the rain, or for my East Coast bloggers if you are stuck inside from the snow, curl up and enjoy a good book! My little one takes at least 10 books to bed with her each night and “reads” them before bed (which means flipping through the pages really quickly and making up her own story). You’ll also notice from the second photo that many times her books are upside down.
