A Dream of Peace

I was looking through some papers that my son brought home from school today and I came across a drawing that I just had to share with all of you. It’s perfect timing since Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day and his birthday was a few days ago on the 15th. What a beautiful dream to have and what a wonderful man to honor.

P.S. For those of you who read the blog via Google reader or other blog reader services be sure and stop in and check out the cool new flash header!

LOVE the new flash banner!! Wow! Great work.

MsB - January 18, 2008 - 10:00 am

Your son is so AWESOME!!! I love this post! BTW, I love the new Flash header, too! I am just working on my rotating banner, but it’s nothing like this! Very nice, Angela!

Pammy - January 18, 2008 - 11:36 am

Hey roomie

I like your new flash banner. Your son’s artwork is adorable. My little guy was talking about Dr. King today too.

meggan - January 19, 2008 - 11:10 pm

Buy that boy some ice cream! He’s got the right idea! Oh, and your banner is pretty nifty too. :)

PamN - January 20, 2008 - 9:55 am

Great banner! And frame that little guy’s drawing!

Waiting for two…

I almost called this post “The Freeway Series”. Today I traveled to Pasadena to photograph this wonderful, awesome, happy, beautiful family (ok I could go on and on about how sweet they were). So I’m at the south end of the 110 and they are at the other end of the 110 so today was my freeway series! Their lives are about to change in a big way. In a few weeks they will be welcoming identical twin boys to their family. We had so much fun and I will be seeing them as soon as those baby boys (who still need names) arrive. I put in my vote for Spencer as a name for one of them. Boys are harder to choose names for than girls I think, so they have 2x the task ahead of them. I’m sure they will come up with something wonderful for both of them. I hope they have curls just like their big sister, the most beautiful ringlets.

Thank you to the H family for welcoming me to your home and to little Miss A, I loved playing animals with you today! (She had the cutest little collection of zoo animals so we got down on our bellies in the floor and made animal sounds.) Here’s to a wonderful delivery and I cannot wait to meet the boys! Oh and I have to say, that it is *so* not fair to look that good while pregnant with twins, some people make it look so easy!

Here are a few to share from our time together today!

The last time it will be just the three of them… (aren’t they a gorgeous family?)

I love when I can capture two year olds being every bit of two, it’s such a unpredictable age and I loved her little personality and how happy she was…

we played peek-a-boo…

…and this one is one of my favorites, because we were almost finished and she was getting tired and she was just taking a moment to unwind and is it ok to confess that her sucking her thumb is the cutest thing ever?

So, can’t wait to see what you do with the twinks, A! You will do just awesome, I know!
Beautiful family!

Oh my darling, sweet, cousin, baby A. Can’t wait for the twins. She’s ready to pop any day!

Beauty School Dropout

I should not have titled this post by that name because now I have the need to watch Grease!  Oh well…

I’m such a magazine junkie and the other night I was trying to catch up on 2 months worth of magazines that I had not read yet and I found a little beauty tip.  I love those darn Biore Pore strips that you put on your nose and the magazine I was reading said that its just glue on some papery stuff.  They recommended using Elmer’s Glue instead of the Biore because same result but way cheaper.

Yeah so there is no shame in my game and I tried it.  Worked even better than Biore.  Just put the glue on my nose in a thin layer and let it dry just like the magazine said.

I grabbed my iphone and took a photo of my magical bottle of Elmer’s Glue.  Who knew that Elmer was a new line of beauty products? ;)   How long is it before Elmer is being sold next to the MAC counter?

Oh man, you totally crack me up! Where’s the picture of the glue on your nose???

Jennifer - January 11, 2008 - 8:23 am

ok so you put glue on your nose and it does just as good? Well did it work good for you? Wheres that pic at of you with the glue on?:)

PamN - January 13, 2008 - 6:35 pm

er, I think you have it a little TOO close to your nose….!

Nicole - April 29, 2008 - 9:02 pm

The Body Shop makes a mask that’s exactly like those Biore pore strips (I love ‘em too!) The mask from their Tea Tree Oil line and is called Blackhead Eliminating Mask. When you peels it off you see the stuff from your pores like you do with the strips, so cool!

Get Lost…

No I really don’t want you to get lost, but I’m wondering how many of my blog readers watch Lost? It is one of my most favorite shows on television and FINALLY season four begins on January 31. I think I need to watch the last episode again because that entire flash forward thing threw me for a loop! I was so excited when this week’s Entertainment Weekly arrived and look at the cover. Yahoo!!!!!!

Ok this is the most pointless blog post on the planet. It doesn’t take much to amuse me. Let the countdown begin, only 23 more days until we can all get Lost!

Oh and Matthew Fox is pretty easy on the eyes too! ;)

Oh, Yummy! I like LOST too! I heard it was going to be delayed because of the writer’s strike so I’m so excited to hear it is actually coming on at the end of the month! I agree, I feel like I need to watch the last episode again to get caught up!

Samantha - January 8, 2008 - 10:49 am

LOVE it! I absolutely love it!

Hi Angela,

My name is Samantha and I am a Second shooter for my husband, I love your work!

Have a prosperous and blessed Year 2008!

Jayme Tighe - January 11, 2008 - 5:48 am

OMG…. that is tooo funny! Your family must have thought you lost your mind!! I just might have to try that! :)

rik - January 11, 2008 - 2:25 pm

oh angela, i can’t explain how excited i am about this season…yeah, that flash forward really threw me for a loop…i’ve heard on the podcast that that might happen more often in the future, as we deal now with the consequences of making the call, and why exactly jack wants so badly to get back to the island.

can. not. wait.

In my bag…

I often get emails from other photographers asking what kind of gear I use so I thought I would go ahead and post it here so I can refer people to it quickly.

So right now I have three different camera bags that I use.

First up is my Shootsac. It’s good to use on location when you want to change lenses on the go and not be weighed down by a big huge bag. Although I’ll go ahead and confess to using it as a purse sometimes and throwing my point and shoot camera in it with my iphone and just go! I have the calm cover for it but I think I actually like the plain ol’ black cover because it matches pretty much anything and the flip side of it is a lens cloth.

and here it is loaded up

Then I have my Crumpler 7 Million Dollar Home. (Yes that really is the name of it). I’m a carry everything including the kitchen sink kind of girl, always prepared so the 7 Million really didn’t work so great for me because I use a grip on my bodies and that makes them huge, so it simply didn’t have enough room. I still have it and I’ll use it when I’m just taking one body with me. How can you not love a camera bag that is red? That alone gives it major cool points.

Now my favorite bag of all that I absolutely adore is my Jill-e large black roller. It holds everything! But let me warn you, this is one big bag. The photo does not even come close to letting you know how big. HUGE is a better word I think! It has polka dot material on the inside, too cute!

So what do I put in this bag? Well here’s a list of my gear…

plus…
15 Compact Flash Cards
2 sync cords
1 Polarizer & Case
3 UV filters & Cases
and a bunch of other small loose things with room for more
Also there is a pocket that will hold my laptop – (will fit any laptop up to size 17 inch).

I also have my strobes, softboxes, softliter and other goodies that just don’t quite fit in the bag, but I don’t always use them so that’s a good thing!

So now you know what’s in my bag!

OMG! I think you have every piece of photographic equipment anyone could ever need! Thank goodness there’s a bag out there big enough to fit it all in!

How do you decide which & what pieces of equipment your going to use for a shoot?

Ginger - January 7, 2008 - 5:18 pm

Hi Angela! I saw you featured on Blu’s site, and had to check out your work!
I love it, and I had to come tell you that i absolutely adore the 2nd song on
your website! I’m a cellist, so I love that type of music– and it goes perfectly
with your kid pics!

Blu’s a bit busy right now, but at some point in the future I’ll get my site up on running
(just purchased in on Jan 1st)– I’m looking forward to finding music that fits my
style– which can be a tricky task! But you did a great job;)

Blessings to you and your work:)

PamN - January 8, 2008 - 11:00 am

Hey Angela, did you know that SOON Shootsac will be offering custom covers – with your logo, and maybe colors? I actually take my cover completely off when shooting a wedding, so I never bought a cute one…this might tempt me.

Jaime Shrader - January 8, 2008 - 2:54 pm

Hey Angela,
Which lense would you recommend first, your 85mm or the 60mm, and why?

thanks!

Angela - January 8, 2008 - 3:05 pm

Well I use the 85 and 60 for different things. With the 85 I don’t typically use it indoors as I often don’t have enough room to back up. I love it outside and the bokeh from it is GORGEOUS! The 60 I use that one a lot for newborns because it’s also a macro lens so you can get close up to those cute little baby toes and parts. It’s also a great portrait lens too – and for these lenses I use them on my D3. For Canon shooters I have to confess my undying love for the 24-70L, as you can tell by my Nikon gear I’m a prime lens kinda gal, but that 24-70 is one of my favorite lenses.

Michaela - January 9, 2008 - 9:22 am

First, your website and photography is amazing! I love your logo, your style and I love reading your blog!

Thank you so much for sharing what’s in your bag, I have been agonizing over what to purchase to get my business started. I spent almost 10 years photographing children on film, but this whole digital world is new to me. I’ve had the Nikon D70 for 2 years and it’s already starting to act funny. I read somewhere that if used often a digital camera can burn out in about 2 years?

I can’t decide between the Fuji finepix pro S5 or the Nikon D300. (The D3 price is not in my budget). I considered the Canon 5D, but I also want to build my lens palot and eventually purchase the D3. I just keep going round and round over these 3 cameras, which would you choose?

Angela - January 9, 2008 - 9:44 am

I’m a raw shooter and I find the S5 to be a little slow, now for Jpeg users it isnt quite so bad. If I had to choose between the D300 and the S5 I would without a doubt go for the D300, it’s amazing and the change in noise handling over the D200 alone is worth it. It’s like the D3′s little sister! Since your ultimate goal is the D3, I would just stick with Nikon. :)

Moises Tagle - January 30, 2008 - 3:57 am
