Lost… tonight… ABC…

- I thought I'd add a comment so the box wouldn't look so empty! ROFL!
We are on day seven of rain (possibly more but I think it’s day seven) here in Los Angeles. Since we don’t usually get a lot of rain here the local news stations are calling it a “Rain Event”. It cracks me up every time I turn on the news and hear them talking about the “event” or “Storm Watch 2008″. Hey everything is on a grand scale here, any reason for a event or a party we are on it. So my children are driving each other crazy since they cannot go outside and they are stuck in the house. My little one was sick all week and was home from preschool, so she really has cabin fever. I took them out to stand on the porch with their umbrellas for some fresh air and they were happy campers after that (ok in reality they were happy campers for a total of 8 minutes and then they started picking on each other again).
A few months ago I mentioned how I am making the transition to Mac and I am in love. I love how easy, fast and reliable my Mac is. I still have been using my PC next to my Mac because there are still a few programs that don’t have versions for Mac (although I should just get Bootcamp and be done with it). My Dell… oh how I loathe the. This is the biggest piece of redneck computer I think I have ever had in my entire time of using a computer. When I bought it I bought the top of the line model, super fast, tons of RAM, hard drive spaces, DVD drives, you name it this thing is “supposed” to be able to do it. So back in November it started doing weird things and it would not power on and would flash some crazy amber colored light. I did a search on Google and lucky me, I have one of the models that seems to have all sorts of problems. So once I get the thing back on I can’t turn it off. If the power goes out (which oddly enough happens quite often in our neighborhood at least 1x a week) then I have to jump start it. Yes you heard right I have to jump start my computer. I have to take off the casing, do some weird trick with the battery and the start button, unplug, say some prayers then it finally jumps itself. I swear it’s quite the production and drama until I get it going again. I’ll confess I’m not a nice person when this is going on, I give quite a few evil eyes to my husband if he asks me if it’s working yet.
To my clients reading this, rest assured that your images are all located on external hard drives and backed up to a off site source as well as on DVD, so you are safe. However my sanity is compromised every time this happens. I spent two hours trying to jumpstart RC (aka Redneck Computer) this morning and he decided he didn’t want to come on. I’m going to wait and try again later. I hope for RC’s sake that he starts up again or he’s headed for a landfill!
A couple of snaps of my little ones enjoying their fresh air during our “Rain Event”
(note to self, trim daughter’s bangs so she can see) I hope everyone had a great weekend!

- your kids are just too cute, I love your daughters hair, even the long bangs!
- Don't cut the bangs yet!!!
- You can also try to install VM Ware Fusion. It runs simultaneously with your Mac and even lets you drag files from mac to pc. I use it with FotoFusion for album design.
The entire plane ride home from Phoenix I was trying to think of clever post titles for this blog entry and I had some great ones, of course my short term memory is not what it used to be so the best I have at 2am is I saw the light. Not so clever.
Words cannot describe how awesome, wonderful, amazing and fun the One Light Workshop was. For all my photographer friends out there, this is a must do for you. All of his workshops are sold out for 2008 (I *think* he mentioned that he would be adding possibly a couple more but I’m not sure where). Oh wait, Alaska is not sold out, I actually would love to go to that one too, heck I would go again regardless of where it is. Zack Arias is the real deal, he’s a open book of information and on top of everything he is humble without a inkling of a ego.
Melissa Jill, a destination wedding photographer based out of Phoenix, was our wonderful host and I truly appreciate her for welcoming us to her home.
When we went around the room and introduced ourselves, Zack also told us to say what we hoped to get out of the workshop. When it was my turn I said that I wanted my OMG moment. All of my friends that have attended the workshop in other states have just raved about how awesome it was and each of them used the OMG expression multiple times. I’m proud to say that I got my OMG moment and so much of what we learned just clicked.
Here are a few photos to share, seriously I could write paragraphs and paragraphs about what a wonderful experience it was, but my eyes are crossing and my little one is sitting on my lap. She is sick with the flu
.
Oh and I’m such a dork but this was something else awesome for me personally. I’ve mentioned several times that I’m a blog junkie and my Google reader is filled with some of my favorite blogs that I have to read every night before I go to bed. One of my favorite wedding photographers was there – Ray Soemarsono from Apertura, and I had to confess about being a blog stalker. He was a total sweetheart and actually appreciated my blog stalking, you have to check out his blog. I told my husband we need to renew our vows or something so we can hire Ray & Erwin to shoot our re-wedding, ok well I have to get skinny first then we will do it!
But seriously, their work is simply breathtaking!
Zack schooling us…

- That's so rad that you got to attend this workshop! This is one for my 2009 list! (2008 has a meager workshop budget.) Thanks for sharing your shots! Is it lame to say that I'm inspired just from your peak of a set-up? =) By the way, since you mentioned blog-stalking confessions, you should know that you're on my RSS feed list.
- Wow! My shirt really needs to lose some weight! :) Thank you so much for coming out to the workshop and for your kind words! It was great meeting you and I'm glad you had some OMG moments! (Oscillating Migratory Geese right?) :) Can't wait to see what you do with the information we went over! Cheers, Zack
- Wow, it looks like a great workshop! I'll definitely have to keep track of it as a maybe for 2009. I've fully allocated my 2008 training budget already!

- Wow, these turned out great! You got some beautiful images. Liene looks like a supermodel! Thanks for making it fun for us :)
- Yipee!!! I'm so excited that you had a good time. I was kind of worried that I might have built it up too much and then you would have been disappointed. Can't wait to see what you do with all the new knowledge. I need to get mine out and play with it again.
- These are awesome Angela! Glad you enjoyed your time with the master of one light!
- It was nice to meet you in the workshop. Your site looks wonderful and I really like your children portraits. You got some rocking shots for Liene in the workshop as well. Drop me a call if you come to AZ again.
- Angela, I just love reading your blog! You are not only an amazing photographer, but you come across as such a genuine person. I soooo appreciate how much you share regarding your adventures in photography. I learn so much just from reading, and have also learned that you are a person I'd really love to meet someday! (Maybe in a future Zach workshop -- you just sold me based on your commentary followed by gorgeous images!)
- heay... so glad you enjoyed the workshop. I would LOVE to go to one again.
- Dang you. I was avoiding the One Light workshop hype but you pushed me over the edge and they're sold out. AARRGGHHH! I'm glad you got your AHA! moment, girl.

I bet you didn’t know that I’m fluent in German did you? Well… when I was about to go in to high school I didn’t want to go to the one that I was zoned for so I decided to try and get in to the school that I wanted to go to. In order to do that I had to take a class that was not offered at my high school in order to go to the other one. Bam. German! So I took German all through high school and then in college as well (why change midstream I thought?). Although I’m here to tell you that German is doing me no good at all here in Southern California, well not that it did me any good in Nashville, TN either, in hindsight it wasn’t the best decision of helpful languages to learn but variety is the spice of life. Now I’m learning Spanish with my ipod and some CD’s that I bought at Costco, I think it’s called Learn Spanish in 2 minutes or something silly like that.
Anyway…. I’m saying Auf Widersehen, which is Goodbye for all you non German knowers
, or people who have never seen the Sound of Music! I’ll be heading out of town on Tuesday attending the One Light Workshop in Phoenix, AZ. Words cannot express how excited I am about it. I’ll be blogging from the workshop (if I have time).
You know you want to run and watch The Sound of Music don’t you
? Here’s So Long Farewell for your viewing pleasure (although my favorite is Edelweiss!)

I think I developed a crush on Christopher Plummer after hearing him sing this… Is that weird?
[youtube nj_NPN0Iy3w]
- I am SO jealous that you are going to that workshop...you gotta let us know how it goes!
- Haha! I totally had a crush on Christopher Plummer in that movie!
- Hi Angela, i'm not fluent in English..... i'm sorry, so here the rest in German, hihi.
- oooh i loved seeing your photos... i wanted to read more and more... it is on my list of workshops that i MUST attend. tfs.
- LOOOOVE "The Sound of Music" :)
