Got blue?

Warning this has nothing to do with photography at all.  :)

Tonight we were in Best Buy and my husband was looking at cell phones (he’s in the mood for an upgrade).  I remembered hearing about the new law that is about to go in to effect so I bought a Bluetooth headset for my phone.  Oh boy I used to laugh at my friends for having one of these and I would ask them if they were working the drive through with it. Well now in order to use your cell phone in California while driving you are going to have to have a headset.  I don’t think it’s a bad idea at all, I can’t even begin to tell you how many times someone on their phone has almost hit me or someone else.  Here’s a press release from the Governor’s office about it.  So this is my PSA for all my California blog readers.  Go ahead and get one now before you forget and end up getting a ticket!

California Passes Cell Phone Law
Relevant Jurisdictions: Federal, California

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed legislation that prohibits the use of handheld mobile phones while driving in the state.Effective July 1, 2008, the legislation prohibits drivers from using a wireless telephone while operating a motor vehicle unless the driver uses a hands-free device. Drivers who violate the law will face a base fine of $20 for a first offense and $50 for each subsequent offense.

The law allows drivers to use a wireless telephone for emergency purposes, drivers of commercial vehicles to use push-to-talk phones until July 1, 2011, and allow drivers of emergency response vehicles to use a cell phone without a hands-free device.

California joins Connecticut, the District of Columbia, New Jersey, New York, and some local jurisdictions in prohibiting the use of handheld mobile phones while driving.
